Note: If you cannot properly tie down a particular style of wheelchair, consult with your supervisor
and/or the student’s school physical therapist. The bus should never be placed in motion if the
wheelchair is not completely and properly tied down.
Daily Checklist: Wheelchairs
Loading and Unloading the Wheelchair on the Lift
Have the student and caretaker been greeted?
Is the student’s wheelchair positioning belt fastened?
Is the wheelchair positioned on the lift facing out?
Are the brakes locked?
Are the gears engaged on the motorized wheelchair?
Is the power switched off on the motorized wheelchair?
Is/are the attendant’s hand or caretaker’s hands on the wheelchair during lift operation?

Is the wheelchair placed forward facing?
