Nutrition Standards/Promotion - High School Reengineering Program
Reinventing School Meals

In the 2008-2009 school year, the School Food Service (SFS) Department developed the High School Cafeteria Pilot Program (HSCPP) to reinvent the way students perceive and receive their school meals. This program’s name was changed to the High School Reengineering Program (HSRP). The institutional appearance was exchanged for a more welcoming food court design, taking great consideration into the overall physical facility, customer service, nutritious food offerings, dining experience, and required a minimum of three (35) minute lunch periods to support the anticipated participation. It was the department’s belief that with these modifications, students would enter a more relaxing, inviting, social, safe and customer driven dining experience. Therefore; they would look forward to this time to nutritionally recharge for improved physical and mental well-being thus supporting the District’s ultimate goal of improving academic performance.

Program Marketing - Raising the Bar

The HSRP Expectations video was created to support the program and covers: Program Creation, Food and Line Presentations, Production and Record Keeping, Proper Uniform Attire, and Closing remarks by Atlantic Community High School Principal, Anthony Lockhart. This was the genesis for the creation of "Kids First Films."

Atlantic Community High School

In the 2011-2012 school year, Atlantic Community High School was the first high school in The School District of Palm Beach County to receive the High School Reengineering Program. Café Atlantic’s lunch participation reached 70% in the 2011-2012 school year; a 20% increase for the first year of the program. In the 2012-2013 school year lunch participation reached 72%; a 2.6% increase from the previous school year. As a result of the student buy-in and design implementations, behavior in the cafeteria and the classroom continues to improve.

On April 10, 2013 MVP Contractors, Inc. was awarded the construction contract.
