In the third year (FY20) of this requirement, 6,997 high school biology students were trained in Hands Only
Hands Only CPR CPR until the District had to shut down due the COVID-19 pandemic.
Hands-Only CPR Can Save Lives! Hands Only CPR was taught during both the FY19 and FY20 school years,
to all students enrolled in a high school biology class. Most people, who experience cardiac arrest at home,
work or in a public location die because they do not receive immediate CPR from someone on the scene. As a
bystander, do not be afraid. Your actions can only help.
When calling 911, the 911-operator will ask for your location. Be specific, especially if you are calling from a
mobile phone that is not associated with a fixed address. Answering the dispatcher’s questions will not delay
the arrival of help. In the first year (FY18) of this requirement, 8,360 high school biology students were trained
in Hands Only CPR. In the second year (FY19) of this requirement, 10,141 high school biology students were
trained in Hands Only CPR.
