Florida uses the ACCESS for ELLs 2.0 & Alternate ACCESS tests as a tool to measure the
progress of English Language Learners (ELLs) proficiency in English; thus, ensuring the skills
needed in school to achieve at high levels, academically.
Postsecondary Education Readiness Test (P.E.R.T.)
P.E.R.T. is Florida's customized common placement test. The purpose of the P.E.R.T. is to
determine accurate course placement based on the student's skills and abilities. The P.E.R.T. is
aligned with the Postsecondary Readiness Competencies identified by Florida faculty as
necessary for success in entry-level college credit coursework. The P.E.R.T. assessment system
includes placement and diagnostic tests in mathematics, reading and writing. In addition, the
P.E.R.T. may be used to meet the Algebra 1 EOC graduation requirement.
National and International Education Comparisons
Pursuant to Florida Statute § 1008.22 (2), Florida school districts shall participate in the
administration of the National Assessment of Educational Progress, or similar national or
international assessments, both for the national sample and for any state-by-state comparison
programs that may be initiated, as directed by the Commissioner. The administration of such
assessments shall be in addition to, and separate from, the administration of the statewide,
assessments.
