Students who receive this preference are then assigned seats through the random lottery. Please note that while all students selected for this preference must meet the criteria, not all students who meet the criteria will be chosen to receive it. The number of students assigned with this preference will not exceed 20% of the available out-of-boundary seats for that program and grade level.Employee preference grants a higher priority in the lottery to an applicant whose parent or legal guardian is a full-time employee at the school to which the student is applying. To qualify, the program at that school must be listed as the student's first choice. While this preference increases the chance of an assignment, final placement is still contingent upon seat availability.Military preference grants a higher priority in the Choice lottery to applicants whose parent or legal guardian is a full-time, active duty member of the United States Armed Forces. To qualify, the student must be registered as a dependent in the Defense Enrollment Eligibility Reporting System (DEERS). Parents must upload proof of eligibility such as: Department of Defense identification, official military orders showing current active duty status and proof of dependency, such as the student's military ID card, at the time of application. While this preference increases the likelihood of assignment, final placement is still contingent upon the number of available seats in the program..IB/IB MYP Continuum grants students applying to continue the IB Middle Years Programme (MYP) from a designated partner middle school a priority assignment to the corresponding high school program. To be eligible, students must be on track to satisfactorily complete the 7th and 8th grade MYP levels and meet all high school IB eligibility requirements. This priority placement is contingent upon seat availability. The official IB MYP continuum pathways are: Carver MS to Atlantic HS, Conniston MS to Forest Hill HS, John F. Kennedy MS to Suncoast HS, and Pahokee MS to Pahokee HS.FAU Biomedical is a program at Lake Worth High School that serves as a direct continuation for students from the biomedical programs at the middle school level. Applicants must meet all eligiblity requirements and list Lake Worth High School as their first choice on the application. K-8 Continuum preference provides students an opportunity to continue from 5th to 6th grade at a K-8 school. To be eligible, current students must submit a Choice application listing that school as their first choice. Priority for 6th-grade seats is given to students who either live in the school's attendance zone or have attended the school for both 4th and 5th grade. If there are enough seats for these priority applicants, they will all be assigned. If there are more priority applicants than available seats, a lottery will be conducted among this priority group to determine assignments. Please note that students must also meet any program-specific entry requirements, if applicable, to be eligible. Priority SAC preference is available to students residing in designated attendance zones for six specific sites: Morikami Park, Northboro, Poinciana, and S.D. Spady elementary schools; Bak Middle School of the Arts; and Suncoast High School (IIT-related programs, only). In the lottery, this preference is applied after all higher-priority applicants have been assigned. Up to 50% of remaining elementary seats and 25% of remaining secondary seats may then be filled by students with this geographic preference.Sibling Preference is provided to a student applying to a school where their sibling is currently enrolled in a Choice or in-house program and will be returning the following school year. To qualify, the school must be the applicant's first choice, and the currently enrolled sibling cannot be in an exiting grade (5th, 8th, or 12th). It is important to note, however, that when siblings apply to the same Choice program together for the first time, they do not receive a lottery preference over other applicants. While you must still link them on each application to identify them as a family unit, this does not guarantee they will be assigned together, with the exception of twins or multiples, if space is available. For those who qualify for the preference, it is applied after other higher-priority groups are assigned, with up to 50% of remaining elementary seats and 25% of remaining secondary seats being filled by these applicants.Strand preference is available to students who wish to continue in a pathway program from a lower school level to the next. To be eligible, applicants for 6th grade must have completed grades 4-5 in the program; applicants for 9th grade must have completed grades 7-8 in the pathway program. This preference is applied in the lottery after all higher-priority groups have been assigned seats. Up to 25% of remaining seats in secondary school programs may be filled by students with this preference. Lottery SelectionThe lottery process is designed to be fair and transparent. This is an automated process used to assign students when a program has more first-choice applicants than available seats. The system uses a student's verified home address to determine their status as either in-boundary (zoned for the school), out-of-boundary, or out-of-district. Placement is then prioritized using an approved order of preferences, which are applied to each student's first-choice program selection. First choice applications are prioritized according to the following preference order: Principal%u2019s 20%, Employee, Military, IB/IB MYP Continuum, FAU Biomedical, K-8 Continuum, Priority SAC, Sibling, and Strand. Students without a preference are included in the lottery after all students with the following preferences have been considered. We welcome students residing outside the county to apply for enrollment. While out-of-county applicants are warmly invited to join our school community, please note that priority placement and consideration are given to in-county residents first. Out-of-county applications will be considered once all qualified in-county students have been accommodated.
