Conclusion
In summary, the FY 2023–2027 School District of Palm Beach County Technology Plan
st
responds to the evolving educational needs of 21 Century learners by providing the classroom
technology, upgraded infrastructure and professional development needed while maintaining
critical security and privacy protections for all users and systems.
Achieving the milestone of 1:1 Student Devices across the District is a game-changer for our
students, community, and teaching & learning. Along with that, comes the need for faster and
more available internet access, a greater focus on security, and more investment for
replenishment and replacement of student devices.
Past, present, and future investments in wireless and wired access speed and connectivity,
desktop, laptop, and mobile devices, as well as classroom display and engagement
technologies, help support opportunities for students to become more actively engaged in the
education process, personalize their learning experience and ultimately be more career and
college ready in an increasingly competitive digital world.
Additional investments in server, storage, security, disaster recovery, and fail-over technologies
ensure that access to digital learning tools is safe, secure, and available when needed.
Currently, we have funding earmarked in the District 10-Year Capital Plan for all planned
large-scale initiatives outlined in this plan. This is great news, but is contingent on funding levels
remaining at their projected levels for the next five years - as we all know, this could change
quickly due to economic, legislative or other unforeseen circumstances.
The past plan was so effective, in part, because we were able to access Sales Tax Revenue
funds to augment other DIstrict funding for technology initiatives. The passage of a new Sales
Tax Revenue plan in 2022 is critical to maintaining the flexibility to respond to changing
technology needs across the District.
The plan complements and supports the overall School District of Palm Beach County District
Strategic Plan as well, providing the technologies and infrastructure to help the district more
effectively execute the plan’s goals for early reading intervention, high-school readiness, access
to technology, and ultimately, graduating more and better prepared students.
The need for faster, better, and more ubiquitous digital education tools and infrastructure shows
no sign of slowing down - these demands will be ongoing and increasing for the foreseeable
future. By providing the vision, focus, and careful stewardship of funding, we are committed to
meeting the challenges that lie ahead.
