Not wearing seat belt
Opening/exiting from emergency doors or windows without emergency
Sitting on top of a seatback, in the step well, or in the aisle
Leaving loose items such as book bags or musical instruments in the aisle, step well, or in front of
emergency doors. Any such items, which could shift on impact or sudden stops, should be
securely held between the legs or in the lap.
Using profane or offensive language
Making obscene gestures
Shouting or verbally distracting the driver
Eating or drinking on bus
Spitting on bus
Using tobacco on bus
Using illegal drugs on bus
Bringing live animals with the exception of service animals on bus
Bullying
The Bus Operator must follow the guidelines under “Student Misconduct on a Bus” above to
document and report students’ misconduct.
Responsibilities of parents
Parents/Guardians are responsible to supervise their children between home and the school bus
stop as well as while waiting for the school bus to arrive. It is also the responsibility of the
parent/guardian to supervise their children after they are discharged from the school bus in the
afternoon.
Parents/Guardians are responsible that their child:
Arrives at the bus stop at least five minutes before the scheduled pick-up time
Meets all of their responsibilities as established by “Student and Family Handbook, A Parent’s
Guide to the Rules and Regulations of Operation in Palm Beach County Schools” this handbook
and other school board policies
Is not sick when placed on the school bus, or
is experiencing behavior issues
Parents are liable for damage to other vehicles or property caused by their child’s throwing of
items in the bus or from the bus, or by their child’s damage to school district property, such as
vandalism to the bus.
Parents are required to complete appropriate bus registration process as far in advance as possible
but as soon as practicable.
