36 FY25 Wellness Promotion Policy (WPP) Annual Report Back to MenuPhysical Education & Physical ActivityWalk and Roll to School DayWalk & Roll to School Day began in the U.S. in 1997 as %u201cWalk Our Children to School Day,%u201d a one-day event promoting awareness of walkable communities. In 2000, it became International Walk & Roll to School Day when Canada and the U.K. joined the celebration. What started as a single-day event has since evolved into a global movement advocating for year-round safe routes to school. Today, thousands of schools across all 50 states, the District of Columbia, and Puerto Rico participate each October.In October 2024, more than 60 schools across the District celebrated National Walk & Roll to School Day. Families and students of all ages enjoyed the festivities, exercise, and pedestrian safety education.
