Trusted Adult Initiative
The trusted adult initiative aims to provide every student in a District-operated school with a trusted adult on campus who
offers emotional support, guidance, and a sense of belonging. This adult may be a teacher, counselor, coach, or another staff
member with whom students feel comfortable talking and seeking advice. This strategic plan initiative also responded to
the SEQ results, stating that one in four students needs a trusted adult on campus.
To date, members of the initiative workgroup developed a website with resources and best practices that District staff
utilized as they worked with students.
Each school has a designated trusted adult point of contact (POC), who is pivotal in supporting this initiative on each
school campus. The POC received training and support from the Department of Safe Schools and is responsible for
program implementation. They will receive a stipend through a Department of Justice grant running through June 2026.
Full District-wide implementation will occur in FY25, marking a significant milestone in our collective efforts to support
our students, inspiring a positive and transformative change in our school community.
School Effectiveness Questionnaire
The FY24 School Effectiveness Questionnaire (SEQ) was administered in January and February 2024. In FY23, the SEQ was
redesigned to align with the 2022-2027 District Strategic Plan and administered for the second time in FY24. The redesign
entailed creating items that measure specific aspects of the strategic plan while reducing the number of items to minimize
survey fatigue and increase participation. Additionally, all families with students in grades 3-12 received a postcard with a
QR code in the mail encouraging them to complete the SEQ. A one-week window was designated as “Student SEQ Week”
where all students in grades 3-12 completed the survey. Participation increased from FY23 to FY24 across all stakeholder
groups, increasing from 62% to 80% for students, 61% to 73% for staff, and 16% to 19% for parents.
