Facility-based Security Upgrades
The District recognizes the importance of ensuring the safety of students, faculty, and other community members. Security
plays a significant role in fostering a conducive learning environment. Therefore, the District embarked on bolstering the
lock and key maintenance protocols through the implementation of a comprehensive strategy to fortify access control
across all facilities. Strategies included:
• Focus on timely access-related service requests
The Maintenance and Plant Operations (MPO) team successfully committed to and implemented a 24-hour response
time for campus access concerns and a 48-hour response time for all other key-specific requests. This ensured that
any potential security issues were addressed promptly.
• Facility-based security upgrades
MPO lock shop fulfilled security upgrades and re-keying projects at multiple sites to enhance security.
• Ensuring uniformity and accountability in key maintenance is a top priority
To ensure accountability is in place, MPO created an eLearning course for site administrators and key inventory
controllers. As an additional step, personnel conducted site visits to audit current keys and model best practices to
onsite staff. This comprehensive approach to staff training and awareness is a key security strategy.
• Public awareness initiatives
MPO implemented several campus security-related signage projects, including standardizing campus-wide “No
Weapons Allowed…” and “Lockers Subject to Search…” signage.
