Healthy School Teams (HST) Healthy School Teams (HST)
Beginning in FY16, Florida Statues required that ALL schools have a Healthy School Team. While there are HST Newsletter
some federal and state requirements that were mandatory, each Healthy School Team has a tremendous
amount of autonomy.
Our schools were encouraged to develop a diverse team to create a “Wellness Culture” on campus that
aligned with the principal’s vision and best served the needs of their students. Our recommendation was to
invite the following members to participate on the team to ensure all health and wellness perspectives were
incorporated:
Administrators, Wellness Champion (Staff Wellness), Physical Education Teacher,
School Food Service Manager, School Counselor, School Nurse, Teachers, After-school Director, Parents,

were able to make informed choices on the types of foods/beverages that can be sold to students
Healthy School Teams are encouraged to infuse the three “Pillars of Wellness” inside the school -- Nutrition,
Mindfulness, and Fitness. To help support our schools, we continued to develop and enhance our Healthy during the school day through vending machines and school stores.
School Team Resource Center. • 56.7% of schools reported that they do not sell any food to students outside of what is sold by the
School Food Service Department.
