Healthy School Teams (HST)   Healthy School Teams (HST)






 Beginning in FY16, Florida Statues required that ALL schools have a Healthy School Team. While there are   HST Newsletter
 some federal and state requirements that were mandatory, each Healthy School Team has a tremendous
 amount of autonomy.


 Our  schools  were  encouraged  to  develop  a  diverse  team  to  create  a “Wellness  Culture”  on  campus  that
 aligned with the principal’s vision and best served the needs of their students.   Our recommendation was to
 invite the following members to participate on the team to ensure all health and wellness perspectives were
 incorporated:


 Administrators,  Wellness Champion (Staff Wellness), Physical Education Teacher,
 School Food Service Manager, School Counselor, School Nurse, Teachers, After-school Director, Parents,
 Community Members


 Wellness Clubs – Student Led (FY19)  The Healthy School Team Newsletter also continued during the 2018-2019 school year, which shared

        information and provided coaching to schools as they continued to create their teams and developed their

 approval from the State of Florida to offer another variation of the Healthy School Team for schools to choose
 – a Student Led Wellness Club!   The intention behind this option was to have a faculty member in a supportive   Healthy School Team Annual Assessment (FY19)
 role as the Healthy School Team Leader who was responsible for helping students determine what types of
 wellness initiatives they wanted to have on their school campus.  Students consulted with the Healthy School
 Team Leader for guidance and support as they developed and promoted wellness events on their school   In FY19, to align our effort and to remain in compliance with federal regulations, the annual assessment
        was sent out to all schools.  This year the assessment was pared down to reflect only information relating to
 campus.

        received a hard copy version prior to its official on-line release.
 We are incredibly excited that the schools below chose to engage their
 students this year by choosing the Wellness Club option:
        Based on the HST Assessment questions that were asked to all schools, below are some data collected.

              • 91.5% indicated that they had a clear understanding of the Smart Snacks in School guidelines and
               were able to make informed choices on the types of foods/beverages that can be sold to students
 Healthy School Teams are encouraged to infuse the three “Pillars of Wellness” inside the school -- Nutrition,
 Mindfulness, and Fitness.  To help support our schools, we continued to develop and enhance our Healthy   during the school day through vending machines and school stores. 
 School Team Resource Center.    • 56.7% of schools reported that they do not sell any food to students outside of what is sold by the
               School Food Service Department.
