 Garden of Dreams
Howell L. Watkins Middle School - Year 1
On November 2, 2018, SFS celebrated the launch of Garden of Dreams on the campus of Howell L. Watkins
Middle (the second one of its kind in the District). The intention of this School Based Wellness initiative is to
contribute to the District Theme of Positive and Supportive School Climate, Talent Development and High
Performance Culture. This cross pollination project aligns School Gardens, Academics and Social Emotional
Learning beginning with the school’s 6th grade students. To honor and acknowledge the contribution of
School Food Service, this Garden of Dreams has an herb garden in its center. The School Food Service (SFS)
Department also purchased Garden of Dreams T-Shirts for their cafeteria staff to bring the energy into the
café. To remind students of how important their academics are to the realization of their own dreams, SFS
purchased encased bulletin boards for students to showcase their dreams.

Each month, students were introduced to a new mindset to
focus on to help strengthen them from the inside out and
contribute to a more successful academic and personal
middle school experience. Students created posters
representing the November Mindset – Gratitude -- and
proudly displayed them in the encased bulletin boards.
These bulletin boards are known to the students as the Wall
of Dreams. In addition to creating posters, the students
wrote articles about gratitude for the parent newsletter to
bring the excitement with their families.
