        Oh, the Ways We Can Play!                                                                                                  Wellness for All
        Oh, the Ways We Can Play! is an annual field day professional development opportunity for District elementary              The  Department  of  Extended  Learning  (Afterschool  Programming)  strives  to  make afterschool  a  positive

                                                                                                                                   Bringing Back Behavior – This training is provided by Florida Atlantic University.  It gives participants an
                                                                                                                                   overview of developmental delays with a focus on characteristics, strengths, and challenges one may encounter
                                                                                                                                   when working with an individual who has a developmental disability.  85 afterschool staff participated in this
                                                                                                                                   training.
                                                                                                                                   EAP Trainings – These trainings address many aspects of work/life balance, allowing participants to learn new
                                                                                                                                   skills, modify behaviors, improve communication techniques and utilize resources that enhance personal and
                                                                                                                                   professional effectiveness. 175 afterschool staff participated in this training.
                                                                                                                                   Professional Crisis Management (PCM) – PCM focuses on four primary strategies taught by certified
                                                                                                                                   instructors.  Strategies include crisis prevention, crisis de-escalation, crisis intervention, and post crisis
                                                                                                                                   management.  PCM training requires a twenty-two-hour course, a written exam and a practical exam. Upon
                                                                                                                                   successful completion participants are certified as PCM practitioners.  The Department of Extended Learning
                                                                                                                                   (Afterschool Programming) has three staff members certified as PCM Instructors.  Additionally, Afterschool
                                                                                                                                   Programming Liaison – Ms. Aubrey Bennett received the status of PCM Co-Trainer in April 2014.  These staff
                                                                                                                                   members have facilitated all initial and recertification trainings for afterschool staff since April 2013.  During
                                                                                                                                   FY19, 88 staff were trained and received certification or recertification in PCM.
                            Other wellness trainings offered to afterschool staff during FY19

                                                                                                                                   Inclusion Trainings – The Arc of Palm Beach County offered a variety of trainings this year to afterschool staff
        Afterschool Crisis Management - This training is provided by School Police and includes information on                     working with specific needs students.  The trainings offered participants the opportunity to experience what
        responding to critical incidents, developing a crisis plan, responding to codes, lock downs and evaluations as             it is like to have a developmental disability.  Experiences like this help staff learn how to include youth with
        well as domestic violence relating to school staff and students.

        Playground Safety - The Playground Safety training is offered through the Department of Risk management
        and reviews measures for keeping students safe during outdoor activities as well as discusses procedures for
        reporting accidents. 740 afterschool staff participated in the face-to-face Playground Safety training.
