MIDDLE SCHOOL PROGRAMS
International Spanish Academies (ISA)
Available School Options
International Spanish Academies (ISA) are Dual Language programs that have
signed a collaborative agreement with the Ministry of Education of Spain. This K–12 Choice
educational program is carried out within the framework of cooperative activities · Okeeheelee Middle
organized by the Office of Education of Spain in the U.S. and each participating In–House: None available
district. The language, history, and culture of Spanish speaking countries are a major
focus of the curriculum. Due to the sequential nature and the rigor of the language
of instruction, students must demonstrate Spanish language proficiency on a Spanish
language assessment test.
Leadership Academy (African American/Afro Centric Studies)*
The Roosevelt Leadership Academy will intensely focus on the development of Available School Options
the full human potential of our young leaders. This STEAM (Science, Technology,
Engineering, Arts, and Math) based/focused program offers unique educational Choice
opportunities and experiences using an Afro-Centric delivery of curriculum and · Roosevelt Middle
infusing African American Studies across the core academic areas. Computers In–House: None available
and other technologies will be used to enhance and assist the learning process
and to create highly motivated students. Parents and guardians are encouraged
to be involved with their child’s learning experiences throughout the school year.
Students will have the opportunity to interact with community leaders and explore
the contributions of African and African Americans at the local, state, national,
and international levels. *Program is expanding to offer an opportunity to all
interested students regardless of gender. For more information about applying

Literary and Fine Arts
The students will intensely focus on a chosen art area. The program challenges
students to achieve a high standard of artistic professionalism, literary understanding Available School Options
and analysis, and academic excellence in their artistic concentration. Exposure to Choice
professional artists, performances, and the opportunity to travel internationally · Watson B. Duncan Middle
and domestically will provide students with insight into historical works of art while In–House: None available
providing inspiration for their own creative endeavors.
Students may apply to one (or two) of the following Literary and Fine Arts programs:
Literary and Fine Arts—Instrumental
Literary and Fine Arts—Theatre
Literary and Fine Arts—Visual
Literary and Fine Arts—Vocal
Literary and Fine Arts—Writing & Literature
Math, Science, and Robotics
Students in the Math, Science, and Robotics program follow an intensive three–
year high school preparatory program which emphasizes science, mathematics, Available School Options
technology, engineering skills, and will prepare them to be highly competitive in the Choice
Engineering field. The program is designed to encourage problem solving, decision · Howell L. Watkins Middle

students for entry into a high school robotics and engineering program or related
fields of study.
