Rob Rutstein retired from the District after 38 years working in the IT Division. Rob started his career in 1988 as a Network Engineer and was part of the team that built the District%u2019s very first Local Area Networks.His responsibilities over the years included the installation of school-based servers and networked computer labs, front office networks, media center labs, data backups, custom computer images, refresh projects, charging cart rollouts, and endpoint support. Rob was also instrumental in testing, evaluating, and recommending many of the District%u2019s standard computers%u2014including desktops, laptops, Chromebooks, and peripherals%u2014offered for purchase through the online Marketplace.One %u201cvery long%u201d summer, Rob worked with Network Services and several ITSAs and STSTs to manage the installation of the District%u2019s first wireless access points in thousands of classrooms, auditoriums, media centers, gymnasiums, and courtyards. When the pandemic hit, Rob was tasked with procuring nearly 100,000 Chromebooks and 16,000 Windows laptops for students, teachers, and staff working remotely. It was another %u201clong summer,%u201d at a time when organizations across the country were competing for a very limited supply of devices.Most recently, Rob served as a Technology Solutions Specialist, consulting with school and department staff on unique hardware requirements, options, quotes, and vendors. He also became a critical source of institutional knowledge regarding technology bids, contracts, agreements, scopes of service, and specifications. Many throughout the District have relied on Rob%u2019s technical expertise and decades of experience, and he will definitely be missed.THE BEST IS YET TO COMEIn retirement, Rob plans to continue his part-time career as a Realtor while enjoying the outdoor activities he has pursued for years, including camping, boating, hiking, mountain biking, and paddleboarding.
