Engaged Workforce
Hiring Initiative
Two years prior to COVID, School Food Service implemented a centralized process to hire personnel. This
process proved to be quite successful this year when School Food Service was faced with its largest staffing
shortage in history. The following activities were completed this year which have resulted in 624 new food
service assistants hired in FY2022:
1. Implemented a “hiring hotline” telephone number and email address
(SFSHR@palmbeachschools.org) for interested candidates to contact our department directly
2. Reached out to high schools with culinary academies to invite graduating seniors to apply
3. Attended senior job fair at Glades Central
4. Attended City of Pahokee job fair
5. Attended City of Boca Raton hospitality job fair
6. Coordinated job fairs with Transportation and Maintenance & Plant Operations Departments at the
following adult education sites:
a. Chuck Shaw Educational Service Center
b. Lake Worth High School
c. Forest Hill High School
d. Boca Raton High School
7. Worked with the Communications Department to launch separate hiring campaigns on social media
for the Boca Raton area and also for the entire district
8. Worked with No Kid Hungry to launch a hiring campaign on social media for all district schools
9. Launched Indeed campaign and posted available positions for all schools
10. Coordinated interview efforts for all available positions by providing timely updates to the field
team of interested candidates to interview for their schools
11. Participated in District Grand Hiring Event with coordinated interviews taking place in-person at
seven locations throughout the District and virtually.
In FY2022 all professional development was conducted virtually. Over 1,200 staff members completed courses
totaling close to 28,000 hours of training. School Food Service mandatory training courses consisted of the
following topics:
• Civil Rights
• FY22 Employee Safety Standards
• FY22 Food Safety & Sanitation Part 1
• FY22 Food Safety & Sanitation Part 2
• FY22 Meal Service Procedures
• Offer vs. Serve
• FY22 Policies & Procedures
• Proper Handwashing
