Community Hunger Relief
School Food Service, as a member of the United Way of Palm Beach County’s Hunger Relief Advisory Council, as
well as a variety of their hunger relief workgroups, is always looking for ways to partner with the community to
help our children. This school year the District partnered with the following organizations to provide weekend
meals to students and families:
• Palm Beach County Food Bank -
o Kicked off a new program called the Weekend Food for Kids with 26 schools. Currently, there are
a total of 34 Backpacks/Food Bag programs (eight of them from the Lois’Food4Kids program)
and four Food Pantries programs.
o Provided backpacks through the Achievement Centers for Children and Families at two schools
o In addition, the name of the above programs were consolidated for continuity as the Palm Beach
County Food Bank Childhood Hunger Initiatives: Weekend Meal Program and School Pantry
Program.
o This Summer they partnered with 10 schools to continue to provide food bags. Each bag includes
two individual breakfasts, two individual lunches, three individual snacks, three individual drinks,
and one family style dinner.
• Boca Helping Hands (BHH) Weekend Food Program reached approximately 1,500 students who
received a box of food each weekend for approximately 33 weeks of the academic year in 11 local
elementary schools.
