12 SUPERINTENDENT ANNUAL REPORTCulturally Sustaining Education: Celebrating Diversity Through LearningThe District affirms students%u2019 diverse cultural identities and provides an educational experience that reflects these backgrounds. The study of African, African American, Latino, Holocaust, and Jewish history plays a vital role in fostering a positive and inclusive school culture. The District expanded community-based learning and enhanced educator support through various cultural infusion efforts. African and African American Studies District-operated schools provided culturally relevant experiences by implementing assemblies, guest speakers, and student-led programs, including:%u2022 Participating in the See What I Can Be author series for elementary students.%u2022 Strengthening student leadership through Black Student Unions at secondary campuses.%u2022 Deepening real-world connections through partnerships with community organizations.Hispanic Studies By integrating culturally grounded literary programs, the District fosters academic identity and strengthens family partnerships. Through immersive events, Dual-Language Parent Nights, and STEAM-based cultural experiences, the District creates inclusive spaces for engagement and learning. Additionally, by offering leadership development through the Latinos in Action program, the District empowers students to excel academically while honoring their heritage and contributing to their communities. Holocaust and Jewish History Studies The Holocaust and Jewish History Studies program offered experiential learning opportunities to deepen historical understanding and foster empathy. Learners engaged directly with Holocaust survivor testimony and immersive exhibits, including the Hate Ends No Cattle Car. The initiative also focused on building educator capacity through intensive summer training and the Administrator Field Study in Washington, D.C., ensuring educators are equipped to teach these lessons with accuracy and depth.
