TEACHER SELECTION PROCESS
The School District of Palm Beach County (SDPBC) seeks to hire effective certified teachers with
pedagogical and cultural awareness for our schools. Our district follows the Palm Beach Model
of Instruction which is based upon the work of Dr. Robert J. Marzano and may be found at
https://palmbeachschools.org/staffdev/ Professional Development section.
Individuals interested in obtaining a teaching position with the SDPBC must complete and submit
an online application in PeopleSoft at www.palmbeachschools.org. Vacancies are available
throughout the school year and each application submitted is made available to the school
principal.
Our team of recruiters attend career events across the nation as well as offer in-person and
virtual interviews to find talented candidates for current and future job openings. Each recruiter
oversees specific schools and works closely with those principals to find the candidate that aligns
best with each school’s vision and academic initiatives.
School-Specific Selection Process
Principal/Supervisors have the autonomy to select and hire candidates. It is imperative that each
school develops and utilizes a School-Specific Selection Process to select high-quality
teachers. The process each school creates will help to identify an ideal candidate to meet the
specific needs (including cultural, linguistic, and social needs) of the position at the school.
INTRODUCTION TO THE TEACHER SELECTION GUIDE
This Teacher Selection Guide supports schools in the selection of effective certified teachers. This
guide provides the information necessary to design and implement various selection tools that
are driven by best selection practices and grounded in the Palm Beach Model of Instruction.
Finding the right person for the job isn’t easy, and sometimes great candidates don’t perform
well in certain environments. This guide will provide you with helpful reminders about your
interview and selection process, as well as information on legislation that must be followed when
making staffing decisions.
It is highly recommended that principals and administrators utilize the guide to ensure that their
School-Specific Selection Process is in accordance with District guidelines and applicable state
and federal non-discrimination laws and requirements.
Although this guide is designed to assist principals or hiring administrators as they coordinate
and oversee the teacher selection processes for their school, it is not all-inclusive. Human
Resources (HR) staff is available to offer guidance and assistance with development of the various
selection tools and components. HR staff may be contacted at (561) 434-8430.
