Executive Overview
Technology is an indispensable element in the District Strategic Plan as well as in overall
academic and operational activities. The related People, Processes, and Technology
combine to form an essential tool in the execution of services provided to students,
parents/guardians, teachers, employees, and the community.
Technology governance and project management have five primary responsibilities:
1. Monitoring and championing the alignment of technology with the District’s vision,
mission, Strategic Plan and Strategic Initiatives.
2. Advocating maximum student achievement using technology and
project management.
3. Monitoring compliance to all technology-related Board policies and industry
best practices.
4. Guarding the responsible use of technology and minimizing technology-related risks.
5. Establishing and enforcing standard methodologies and tools for the effective
management of technology projects.
The mission of technology governance is to institutionalize processes that ensure effective
and efficient use of technology while achieving the District's mission and goals. Governance
and project management ensure a framework through which decisions are made, standards
and policies are defined, and processes are implemented in the best interest of the District.
Technology Governance Principles and ITIL
The Information Technology Infrastructure Library (ITIL) is the most widely accepted
approach to IT service management in the world. It provides a cohesive set of best practices,
drawn internationally from the public and private sectors, along with a systematic and
professional framework to manage IT services. By adopting ITIL best practices, the District
receives the following benefits:
Reduced costs and reduced system outages
Improved IT services, customer satisfaction and employee productivity
Implementation, use and continuous improvement of standards and guidelines
