Post Trip Procedures
All school buses must be parked at their assigned facility, in an assigned spot, after each run. The
Bus Driver and Attendant should then perform the following post-trip inspection.
Post Trip Check
Turn off the ignition, electrical system, two-way radio, and lights
Deactivate the Post-trip Passenger Check System
Checking for students should be done systematically and carefully. Leaving a child on the bus
could result in termination and child abuse criminal charges.
Check under all seats to ensure there are no students hiding or sleeping
Walk from the front to the back of the bus
It is recommended on buses where there are more than one employee, each should separately
search the bus for a student left behind.
Sweep the bus floor and otherwise clean the bus as needed
Empty the trash can
Close all windows, hatches, and emergency doors
Close the service door when exiting the bus
Perform a walk around the outside of the bus after parking it;
Check for air leaks, fluid leaks, and check the bus and tires for general appearance.
Open emergency door and check underneath passengers seats for any students
