Handrail and tread on steps are securely mounted
Use exterior light check switch for outside light system check or check manually
Backup lights NOTE: Ask coworker for assistance in checking rear brake, and backup lights. Bus
Drivers are never permitted to leave the operator’s seat with the engine running and the bus in
gear, even with the parking brake applied
Outside Bus Walk-Around
Passenger Side of Bus:
Strobe, clearance, turn signal and four-way/emergency lights are functioning and lens are proper
color, not cracked, broken or missing
Reflective tape, lettering and reflectors are secure, not damaged
Front Tire: pressure, damage, tread wear and minimum 4/32 depth
Mud flap secure, no damage
Rims not bent, cracked or welded
Lug nuts not loose, missing, rust or distortion
Hub seal not cracked, leaking and above refill
DEF cap and door secure, not leaking
Fuel cap secure, not leaking
Wheelchair Lift (if equipped):
o Open the lift door to ensure it opens easily and fully, and check the hold-open strap or
chain
o Operate the lift through one full cycle (unfold or deploy, down, up, fold, or stow) and
check security of all components, including handrails, belt strap (if equipped) and
platform end barrier (roll stop)
Rear Tires: pressure, damage, evenly worn, minimum 2/32 depth, evenly spaced and no foreign
objects
Rims not bent, cracked or welded
Lug nuts not loose, missing, rust or distortion
Axle Seal not cracked or leaking
Mud flap secure, no damage
Rear of Bus:
Clearance, amber/red student warning, brake, running, turn signal, four-way/emergency, backup
lights and alarm are functioning and lens are proper color, not cracked, broken or missing
Reflective tape, lettering and reflectors are secure, not damaged
License plate and light
Hood latches secured and no leaks (rear engine)
