The School District of Palm Beach County and UnitedHealthcare continue to examine data in order to manage costs, target and engage members at risk. Through our extensive analysis of high cost claims, UnitedHealthcare is able to identify the major cost drivers for the School District:

The main goal of this partnership between The School District and UnitedHealthcare is to implement a customized strategy, to take a holistic view of a member’s health. The focus is on employee wellness, disease management, diabetes health plan, custom plan designs, face to face member engagement, and achieving measurable cost savings for The School District.

Key Initiatives and Results
  • default_titleOffering preventive benefits like immunizations, preventive care check-ups, and routine annual screenings. Annual wellness exam utilization continues to increase year after year. Employee utilization increased from 65% in 2011 to 78% in 2012. While spouse/domestic partner continues to improve from 24% in 2011 to 74% in 2012.
  • default_titleSupplying our members with the proper tools to simplify their health care experience. Myuhc.com, Health4Me, OptumizeMe, Live and Work Well, My Healthcare Cost Estimator.
  • default_titleMaking Disease Management Programs available at no additional cost to engage members already living with a chronic condition.
  • default_titleEncouraging members to take advantage of NurseLine, a fully accredited service, available 24/7, that helps improve health care decisions. Taking advantage of this service has saved the District an average of $192,000.
  • default_titlePromoting UnitedHealthcare’s Premium® Designation Program, which helps members easily identify doctors and facilities that meet national standards for quality care and local benchmarks for cost efficiency. In 2012, the District saved 4.6 million dollars just by having their employees take advantage of this program.
  • default_titleImplementing a Diabetes Health Plan that automatically enrolls pre-diabetics and diabetics to slow or eliminate the disease’s progression. It also offers savings on certain pharmaceuticals and diabetes related medical supplies, office visits, and condition-specific services. 35% of all qualified membership was identified as pre diabetic and 65% as diabetic.
  • default_titleMaking available the Healthy Pregnancy Program, a personalized maternity wellness program that provides members with additional support and education throughout pregnancy.
  • default_titleNurse liaison, Gail Diedrick RN BSN, continues to engage and promote the use of our clinical programs, disease management and diabetes health plan.
  • default_titleOnsite Biometric Kiosks and Bilingual Health Kiosks that provide health and wellness programs for health education awareness.
  • default_titleOur Wellness Rewards program encourages employees and covered spouse/domestic partner to complete an Annual Health Assessment along with setting healthy goals and obtaining key health screenings. United Healthcare’s Wellness Reward Program® links premium incentives to the completion of a health assessments, biometric screenings, preventive screenings and online/telephonic coaching. Over 20,000 members completed the online Health Assessment in the 2012-2013 school year.

The Award

The School District of Palm Beach County is the proud recipient of the United Healthcare’s Well Deserved Award for the SY 2012-2013.

The Well Deserved award program was designed to recognize and promote highly engaged Public Sector and Key Accounts customers that have been working with UnitedHealthcare Health Strategies Consultants and using UnitedHealthcare wellness solutions for their worksite wellness programs. This year, UnitedHealthcare received more than 75 applications for this award and a panel of experts selected 11 winners who demonstrate the highest level of commitment to worksite wellness while leveraging wellness programs, tools and resources from UnitedHealthcare.
