12 FY25 Wellness Promotion Policy (WPP) Annual ReportHistorical Timeline...Wellness Promotion Policy (2.035) %u008a Conversations started in 2004 because of the Child Nutrition and WIC Reauthorization Act of 2004.%u008a Policy needed to include goals on nutrition education, physical activity, other school-based activities, and nutrition standards.%u008a Needed to involve parents, students, community stakeholders and District leaders in the establishment of this policy. %u008a Developed and adopted two documents (policy and goals and objectives).1st Adoption - 5/31/2006%u008a Included the goal of promoting wellness for District employees.%u008a Clarified who oversaw the implementation of Wellness Promotion Policy as statutory reference. %u008a Established a formal Wellness Promotion Task Force and developed its mission statement. %u008a Included providing for 150 minutes of physical education each week for K-5 students.%u008a Encouraged the usage of school physical activity facilities outside the normal school day.2nd Adoption - 7/30/2008%u008a Began referencing other policies that impact Wellness to provide cohesiveness across the District and additional guidance, such as the newly adopted Physical Education Policy (8.025) and Anti-Bullying and Harassment Policy (5.002).%u008a Included the completion of a new Employee Wellness Consent Form (PBSD 2319). %u008a Included language regarding partnerships with local Health Department and the Health Care District of Palm Beach County to provide students basic health screenings. %u008a Included language on barriers to learning and the importance of partnerships to address social, emotional and/or behavioral health issues to include the implementation of the school counselor%u2019s Student Development Plan.%u008a Included alcohol, tobacco, and other drug prevention/intervention initiatives and programs at schools. %u008a Included the support and promotion of environmental stewardship. %u008a Aligned District vending machines accessible to students to the Alliance for a Healthier Generation%u2019s Beverage and Snack MOU. %u008a Limited competitive food sales to the School Food Service (SFS) Department. %u008a Increased breakfast time from 10 minutes to 15 minutes. 3rd Adoption - 9/30/2009%u201cThe two most powerful warriors are patience and time.%u201d%u2013 Leo Tolstoy, War and Peace.Back to Menu
