                                              With the CIO

Welcome to the Winter 2017 edition of Technology in Motion for Education (TIME). I
would like to take this opportunity to wish our readers a very Happy New Year and
                                             continued success.
As we approach the new tax year, we would like to remind our users about security
awareness, and the importance of keeping their personal information safe. Cyber
criminals have been very active world-wide to obtain personal information using
different methods, not limited to just email phishing. I would like to remind you to take
extra precaution if you receive a phishing email message asking for your personal
                                             information.

IN THIS To ensure that our employees are aware of technology security and usage, there
are two mandatory training courses required for employees who use computers
and technology as part of their jobs, including temporary and part-time staff. Both
ISSUE courses are accessed through PeopleSoft eLearning and each are eligible for two in-
service points. The deadline for completion of both courses is Monday, May 15, 2017.
More details are provided in District Bulletin #E 17-205 CFO. Additional details on
                                             the training:

Congratulations Natasha!.......9 16,500 Chromebook devices to elementary schools and middle schools. In addition,
Kudos ................................10-13 3,700 desktop computers were provided to high school and alternative school
teachers. The District utilized FLDOE Digital Classroom Plan categorical funds, along
New IT Staff ............................ 13 with capital dollars allocated in the FY17 adopted budget, to cover the $5.5 million
cost. Staff was able to leverage vendor donations ($2 million from Dell, $50K from
Google, and $85K from Arey Jones Educational Solutions) to maximize the impact
of this purchase. These donations reduced the District cost approximately 25%
below the current contracted price on Dell Chromebooks for a net cost of $220.45
per device. This deployment of Chromebooks enables elementary schools to provide
six computing devices per classroom. The additional units at the middle school
level lowers their student-to-modern device ratio to 2.8:1 or better. The IT Division
completed this deployment ahead of schedule and well in advance of the Florida
