Legacy Schools Project

In FY24, under Superintendent Burke’s visionary leadership, the District embarked on a momentous journey, the Legacy
Schools Project. This project identified twenty-five schools to honor the individuals deeply rooted in education and the
        community.

Once schools were identified, a partnership between the Department of Strategic Management and the Department of
Strategic Communications and Engagement was formed to create new commemorative plaques to be installed at each
        legacy school site during FY24.

This was a meticulous process, involving in-depth research, language crafting, and the creation of a graphic template for the
plaques. Once these elements were perfected, 18 x 24 solid bronze plaques were commissioned. Plaques were installed on
legacy school buildings outside the front door of the main offices.

This project not only recognizes the school’s namesake but also educates and inspires our students, parents, and community
by commemorating these remarkable individuals and highlighting the unique history of these schools.
