Global Leadership Project
The tenets of the Global Leadership Project are critical thinking, communication, and collaboration. These core beliefs,
juxtaposed with the United Nations sustainable development goals, underpin the pedagogy, resources, and activities of
this unique initiative in its seventh year in the District. During FY24, the project thrived, expanding to five pilot initiatives,
including Hidden Oaks K-8. As part of this innovative approach to student learning, the District is continuing its partnership
with Participate Learning to provide professional learning and curriculum planning grounded in the District’s initiatives
through the lens of global leaders.
Schools have witnessed the remarkable culmination of their students’ global leadership work in numerous projects. School
staff have diligently crafted activities focused on global competencies, selecting activities that hold significance to their
communities. For example, students at Jupiter MS were given the unique opportunity to enroll in a Global Perspectives
course where they delved into the local impact of global issues, presenting their insightful findings and innovative ideas to
their peers. Simultaneously, the school actively participated in the Empty Bowls campaign, forging partnerships with the
Palm Beach County Food Bank and El Sol Neighborhood Resource Center. At Roosevelt MS, students collaborated with
professionals from Florida Atlantic University to organize a health fair in their community. This initiative not only educated
students and residents about the perils of high blood pressure and diabetes but also imparted knowledge on prevention and
care for local residents.

Project-Based Learning
In alignment with the District’s Strategic Plan, Initiative A.2a is
committed to creating innovative learning environments that
foster students’ creativity, problem-solving, and readiness skills
that will carry them forward in their academic careers and beyond.
The District defines project-based learning (PBL) as a teaching
mindset in which students gain knowledge and skills by working
for an extended period to investigate and respond to an authentic,
engaging, and complex question, problem, or challenge grounded
in academic standards. PBL has a proven track record of increasing
student engagement, building college and career readiness
competencies, and connecting classrooms to the local community
through real-world scenarios and issues. Students hear from an industry professional about the relationship
between the science topic and their job.
In FY24, a PBL network of schools was established to implement innovative learning approaches designed to meet each
school's mission, vision, and goals while retaining the unique elements of a PBL experience.
