Objective 2: Accelerate student learning approaches using innovative and
differentiated approaches

Artificial Intelligence and Khanmigo

As artificial intelligence (AI) advancements reshape numerous facets of daily life, the School District of Palm Beach County
recognizes the potential benefits of improved instruction and operational efficiency. The District develops strategies and
training to utilize AI effectively while addressing key considerations such as data privacy and ethical use. In FY24, teachers,
staff, and administrators participated in over thirty-five opportunities to learn how to implement AI using approved
applications such as Google Workspace, Google Gemini, ChatGPT, Canva, Adobe Express, and Adobe Firefly. The District
is equipping its entire workforce with the skills and tools to leverage AI for enriched learning experiences and streamlined
operations.

In January 2024, the District embarked on an innovative journey by introducing Khanmigo, a new AI-powered tutor for
students and an assistant for teachers developed by Khan Academy, at nine high schools. This initiative marked a significant
leap forward in the commitment to integrating technology with education, enhancing student learning and teaching
methodologies. Khan Academy provides a personalized learning platform with practice exercises, instructional videos, and
content across subjects like mathematics, science, and Economics.

• For students: Khanmigo serves as a virtual tutor, practice partner, debate coach, and writing assistant, enhancing
mastery of new skills, critical thinking, and communication. Khanmigo offers engaging, on-topic, and effective learning
for students and is designed with safety and learning as a top priority. With limitless patience, Khanmigo guides learners
to find the answer themselves.

• For teachers: Khanmigo is a teaching assistant that generates lesson plans, provides feedback, and tracks student
progress. It can also be used to create personalized learning pathways for students. Khanmigo simplifies the creation
and customization of quiz questions, assignments, classroom activities, differentiation, student groupings, lesson hooks,
exit tickets, rubrics, and more.
