Haitian Heritage Month - On May 17, SFS celebrated Haitian Heritage Month with a vibrant feast featuring roasted chicken
drumsticks, rice, and beans infused with a medley of flavors from an epis-inspired seasoning blend, golden plantains, and
pickled slaw reminiscent of the beloved Haitian pikliz. This culinary journey was a testament to Haitian cuisine's diverse
and dynamic flavors, curated with care and authenticity.

        Local Chef Collaboration
The Department of School Food Service partnered with local celebrity Chef Zach Bell to infuse fresh recipes into the school
menus. Zach Bell is known for his strong community support, notably through his No Kid Hungry initiative, providing
nutritious meals to families in need.

In April, the District celebrated Earth Day with a new falafel bowl featuring an ancient grain base, roasted veggies, plant-
based protein, and a delicious sauce. Chef Zach Bell visited Allamanda ES on April 21 to debut the new menu that celebrates
sustainability and mindful eating. Feedback from students at Allamanda ES and West Boynton MS guided the development
        of this earth-friendly dish.

        Marketing Campaign
In their continuous efforts to enlighten students, parents, and District staff about the school meal program, the SFS
marketing team mailed almost 130,000 postcards to families. The postcards emphasized that all school meals are free for
District students. It also provided instructions on accessing menus, nutritional and allergen details, and how school menus
are tailored to cater to our diverse student population. The postcard was also available on the SFS website in Spanish and
Haitian Creole, ensuring accessibility for all.

The SFS marketing team also worked with nutrition staff to design promotional and educational materials for special menu
offerings at schools during nationally recognized celebration days such as Earth Day and Johnny Appleseed Day. The menus
promoted cultural awareness, including Hispanic Heritage Month, Black History Month, and Chinese New Year.
