No Kid Hungry Spotlight School Initiative
No Kid Hungry has been an ongoing partner with SFS, helping to promote
school meal programs and increase meal participation throughout the
District. During FY24, the No Kid Hungry campaign awarded SFS $30,000 for
supplies and equipment to help support their passion for keeping kids first.
No Kid Hungry is a national campaign operated by Share Our Strength, a
nationwide nonprofit organization working to solve childhood hunger and
poverty problems worldwide. As part of their endeavor to tell the story of hungry children in the United States, they first
partnered with SFS in FY21 for the Spotlight Schools–Palm Beach County Initiative, designed to tell stories through the No
Kid Hungry campaign and the successful school meal programs that feed students.
During FY24, the initiative continued with a spotlight on Gove ES in Belle Glade. The No Kid Hungry film crew and publicity
team spent three days in April interviewing SFS staff, teachers, administrators, parents, and students about the importance
of school meals and how access to them significantly impacts students and their families.
Hiring Initiative
In FY24, SFS embarked on a hiring initiative that decreased the percentage of open food service assistant positions from
132 vacancies (8.51%) to 72 vacancies (4.64%). SFS improved the hiring process using the Lean Six Sigma DMAIC model:
Define, Measure, Analyze, Improve, and Control.
SFS continued to utilize platforms such as Indeed to attract candidates. These platforms, where many job seekers were
searching for their next opportunity, became an essential part of the SFS recruitment strategy. The department attended
27 job fairs, including the Team Palm Beach Job Fair at the South Florida Fairgrounds and the Operations Division monthly
job fairs.
