Completed goals for the project were:
             1. Remove and properly dispose of construction debris and vegetation debris.
             2. Trim flora overgrowth and plant Florida natives to beautify and restore the preserve area.
Preserve areas serve as an important benefit to the community by providing nesting and breeding places for
birds, as well as a natural habitat for native plants and animal species. Specifically, the gopher tortoise, which
is listed by the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC) as a threatened wildlife species, has
been known to reside in the East Transportation preserve area.

ECS created new nature trail signs to encourage outdoor learning while enhancing nature-based wellness
walks. The signs were funded through a grant from the District’s Wellness Promotion Task Force (WPTF) and
were piloted at Allamanda Elementary. The signs include the natural history of six different tree types and the
annual value of each tree’s benefit to the community.

        Asbestos and Radon Gas (FY19)

ECS staff coordinated six asbestos abatements, four
demolitions, and one lead in paint remediation/
        stabilization project. Asbestos inspections were
conducted at 29 schools; each of the 29 schools were
inspected twice in FY19. Eco-Advisors was contracted
to conduct 3-year asbestos inspections at the 29
school sites. ECS’ Asbestos and Radon Gas program
total expenditure for FY19 was $96,156.06.
