                                    7Increased Cultural Menu Offerings School Food Service proudly showcased a rich tapestry of culinary traditions throughout FY24 by celebrating various cultural holidays and observances.Hispanic Heritage MonthFrom September 15 to October 15, 2023, students embarked on a flavorful journey during Hispanic Heritage Month. A highlight event on Tuesday, September 12, 2023, saw SFS teaming up with The Education Network (TEN) for a press announcement unveiling an exciting array of dishes. Culinary students at Lake Worth Community HS had the opportunity to preview the featured recipes, including the award-winning Pollo con Queso with Tortilla Chips, the customizable Chile Verde Chicken & Rice Bowl, and the Cheese or Chicken & Cheese Quesadillas, accompanied by Yuca Fries with a Garlic Aioli Dipping Sauce.Lunar New YearOn February 9, 2024, in celebration of Lunar New Year, all schools added a delightful addition to their menus: Wonton Soup with an Eggroll. Prior to its debut, students from Jerry Thomas ES, Allamanda ES, and Jupiter MS participated in taste tests, offering valuable feedback to SFS.Black History MonthThroughout February, cafeterias celebrated Black History Month with a soulful lineup, featuring Homestyle Chicken, Southern Green Beans, Collard Greens, Fish and Cheese Fillet, Sweet Potato Bake, Cornbread Poppers, and Loaded Hashbrown Casserole. The Loaded Hashbrown Casserole, specially crafted for this occasion, featured diced turkey ham, cream cheese, sour cream, and generous amounts of shredded mozzarella and cheddar cheese. In collaboration with staff and students from Boynton Beach Community HS and Pahokee MS, the culinary creations were crafted honoring the rich culinary heritage of African American culture.Earth DayApril 22, 2024, marked Earth Day, and students were treated to a delectable plant-based Falafel Bowl, celebrating sustainability and mindful eating. Feedback from students at Allamanda ES and West Boynton MS guided the development of this Earth friendly dish.Haitian Heritage Month On May 17, 2024, SFS celebrated Haitian Heritage Month with a vibrant feast, featuring Roasted Chicken Drumsticks, Rice and Beans infused with a medley of flavors from an episinspired seasoning blend, Golden Plantains, and Pickled Slaw reminiscent of the beloved Haitian pikliz.
