Rather than purchasing increasingly expensive dedicated hardware, we are leveraging Virtual Desktop Infrastructure (VDI), where possible, to maximize the utility of our existing student Chromebook fleet.Bridging the Software Gap in the CloudItopia is a cloud-based VDI platform that enables standard student Chromebooks to run graphics-intensive applications like Adobe Photoshop and Autodesk. During FY26, we launched an Itopia Proof of Concept (POC) at two high schools to determine if cloud-based streaming could serve as a viable alternative to assigning high-end Windows laptops to specialized students. Following the success of the POC, the program is scaling to 11 additional high schools for FY27.Fiscally Responsible ScalingBecause Itopia is a Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) solution, it provides the District with exceptional financial elasticity. IT will continuously monitor live usage metrics to dynamically scale annual licensing. This demand-driven model ensures the District only pays for active utilization among schools, teachers, and students, preventing wasted software expenditures.Key Advantages of the Itopia Deployment%u2022 Significant Cost Avoidance: Delivers high-resolution 3D rendering, video editing, and graphic design capabilities on affordable Chromebooks, eliminating the need for Windows laptops that cost twice as much.%u2022 Zero Infrastructure Overhead: Streams virtual applications directly through a standard web browser with no local cloud infrastructure or complex image management required from School Techs or IT staff.%u2022 Seamless Ecosystem Integration: Features native single sign-on (SSO) via our existing RapidIdentity student portal, streamlined student/teacher rostering through Clever, and direct file saving to Google Drive.%u2022 Flexible, Anywhere-Anytime Learning: Empowers students to access heavy-duty industry applications outside of school hours from any personal device, supporting self-paced learning and digital equity.%u2022 Centralized, Data-Driven Management: Provides administrators with an intuitive dashboard to track and analyze computer lab and application use at the District, school, or individual classroom level.
