Page 26After a full school year in operation, the District%u2019s student safety monitoring system has identified students in need, guided critical interventions, and established a new layer of protection for the digital learning environment.Every school day, students across Palm Beach County log on to do what students do: search, research, write, collaborate, and learn. Most of that activity is exactly what it looks like: homework. But sometimes, buried in a student%u2019s online behavior, there are signals that something is wrong. A search that hints at despair. A message that suggests a student may be in danger. This school year, the School District of Palm Beach County completed the full implementation of a Student Safety Monitoring Solution in all secondary schools. The system is designed to detect those signals and get the right people involved before a situation escalates. The results from SY2025-2026 tell a story worth sharing. What is a Student Safety Monitoring Solution? Our Student Safety Monitoring Solution is a platform that operates within the District%u2019s managed digital environment. It analyzes activity on District-issued devices and accounts, looking for content that may indicate a student is at risk, including potential self-harm, mental health crises, or threats toward others. When the system detects concerning content, it generates an alert. Each alert is reviewed by trained human analysts. This is not a system that acts automatically and the most serious cases are escalated to District personnel for follow-up. Principals, Assistant Principals, school counselors, School Police, and other school safety personnel receive direct notifications based on the severity of the alert, allowing them to reach students quickly. How It Works: From Signal to Support1 Student activity is monitored on District-managed devices and accounts within the school%u2019s digital environment.2 The solution detects concerning behaviors that may indicate risk for self-harm, explicit content, mental health crisis, or threats toward others.3 Human analysts review every flagged alert and assess itsseverity before escalating to school staff.4 School teams are notified and can reach out to the student with care and appropriate support.5 Students receive the help they need - whether that is a wellness check, a counseling session, or a connection to additional resources.A Full Year of OperationThe 2025%u20132026 school year marked the completion of the Student Safety Monitoring Solution%u2019s full three-phase rollout across the District. What began as a phased pilot became a District-wide program, active from the first day of school in August through the final bell in May.
