ANTIVIRUS HAS EVOLVED. NEXT GENERATION
IS OUR NEW SOLUTION. ANTIVIRUS DEPLOYMENT
Endpoint Detection and Response (EDR) is next-level antivirus protection that
has replaced the District’s traditional antivirus solution. The new protection
system is named Carbon Black.
Carbon Black was deployed in the District in November-December 2020.
The IT Security staff diligently implemented this solution without causing an
interruption to District users.
An EDR solution uses software to detect and investigate suspicious activities
across all endpoints in the District. EDR solutions work to monitor network
and endpoint events and store the information in a centralized database for
further analysis, investigation, and reporting. A software agent is installed
on computers which provides data monitoring and reporting processes
to identify potential threats. The comprehensive data on potential attacks
from continuously monitoring all endpoints of our digital perimeter facilitates
investigations and incident response.
EDR is superior to traditional antivirus and other tools that use signature- or
perimeter-based mechanisms to identify threats. Carbon Black will help the
IT Security Team to better understand the nature of potential attacks and
prepare appropriate responses.
As cybercriminals become more adept and smarter at their trade to breach
networks, the District needs the new features Carbon Black provides to
maintain tight security. Fighting off malware and ransomware threats is a top
priority. We believe Carbon Black is a solution partner to help us with not only
today’s challenges, but for tomorrow’s as well.
