MIDDLE SCHOOL PROGRAMS
Biomedical Health Informatics Available School Options
Students in the Biomedical Health Informatics Academy can earn industry certification
within the technology field and certifications within the medical and business fields. This Choice
dual–track academy offers an innovative, integrated learning environment designed · Omni Middle
to provide students with an academic foundation for medical and biomedical sciences, In–House: None available
information technology, business, electronic records, data management and design, and
health information programs.
Biomedical Sciences (FAU College of Medicine) Available School Options
The goal of the Healthcare Careers Outreach Program (HCOP), with the Charles E.
Schmidt College of Medicine at Florida Atlantic University, is to foster student interest Choice
in Medicine and prepare students to be college and medical school ready. Participating · Lake Worth Middle
students will be mentored by FAU College of Medicine students during activities held on · Roosevelt Community Middle
FAU campus. Activities include field trips to the FAU Simulation Center, Anatomy Lab, In–House: None available
dissections, college roadshow workshops and research experiences. Parent or guardian
participation is expected. The FAU HCOP program supports underrepresented and under–
served minorities in South Florida on their path towards Medicine. In the School District
of Palm Beach County all medical courses provide local honors credit. Clinical rotations
are conducted at area hospitals and other healthcare and research facilities. Students
successfully completing the 4 accelerated high school honors courses in middle school
receive 4 high school credits and a program completion certificate in Biomedical Sciences.
In addition, students sit for industry certification exams in healthcare and may receive
articulated college credits at several post–secondary institutions. All students applying
to this program must meet the following two part eligibility criteria: A minimum of 3
or above on state assessments and an eligible score on an internal assessment which
includes two essays and an interview.
Cambridge Academy Available School Options
The Cambridge Academy provides students with the opportunity to pursue a rigorous
program of study based on an internationally standardized curriculum. Cambridge Choice
academies differ from a traditional setting because of the instructional model, in which · Verde K-8
the curriculum is delivered to the learner in an integrated cross content and spiraled · Woodlands Middle
method. The goal of the Cambridge program is to build a sound academic foundation In–House
for all learners that will enable them to succeed in any high school program including · Lantana Community Middle
AICE, Advanced Placement, International Baccalaureate, Honors, and regular education
programs. Students will develop skills to be confident, responsible, reflective, innovative,
and engaged learners. Students applying to the Cambridge Academy should possess
successful schooling habits, habits of mind, enjoy learning and working with like–minded
students, and be able and willing to direct their own learning.
Communication Arts Available School Options
The Communication Arts curriculum includes: creative writing, journalism, newspaper
and yearbook publications, radio and television broadcast, video production, Choice
marketing/advertising/public relations, digital media, and speech and debate. · Bak Middle School of the Arts*
