Sustainable Schools Program


        The District is committed to supporting green and sustainable schools and practices. In FY23, the District experienced
        growth in several areas of sustainability. Green School Champion designation and registration increased by 20%, Green
        Scene newsletter showcasing sustainable school initiatives and accomplishments subscription increased by 28%, community
        partner engagement, including pilot programs geared towards increasing the District’s environmental stewardship and
        sustainability  footprint, increased by 25%, and the Florida  Department of  Education’s (FLDOE)  Green Apple Schools
        recognition program designated four additional District elementary schools, including Highland ES, as Green Apple Schools.
        A FLDOE delegation visited the campus of the national Green Ribbon award recipient Highland ES during the November
        2022 America Recycles Day -  Florida  Recycles weeklong state-wide celebration to recognize the great recycling and
        sustainable practices of Highland ES.
