EDUCATE | AFFIRM | INSPIRE 103SAFE SCHOOL AMBASSADORSThe Safe School Ambassadors (SSA) program focuses on student leadership to foster a culture of belonging. By recruiting young leaders from diverse communities, the initiative encourages collaboration with supportive adults to promote a positive climate. By drawing on unique peer insights, SSA participants actively transform District environments in both hallways and classrooms. This impact is driven by three strategic actions: defusing tensions through skilled de-escalation, providing meaningful support to classmates in need, and redirecting negative behaviors toward positive outcomes. Ultimately, these efforts foster unity by leveraging peer influence to replace gossip and prejudice with shared understanding and a welcoming school culture. The Department of Safe Schools trained 473 students across 26 sites. School-based advisors met regularly with these student leaders to review progress, celebrate successes, share stories, and ensure every participant felt supported. By modeling positive behaviors, attendees and adult advisors developed problem-solving tools applicable on campus, at home, and throughout the community.
