SCHOOL
SAFETY
ADVANCES
WITH MAJOR RADIO
COMMUNICATION UPGRADES
The School District of Palm Beach County completed a major safety and
technology initiative aimed at boosting radio communication across all
schools.
This program is sponsored by the School Police Department, with executive
leadership provided by Chief Sarah Mooney, Deputy Chief Vanessa Snow,
and Major Nick Scopelitis, in coordination with the District’s IT PMO, with
Rodney Alderman as the Project Manager.
The District installed and configured FCC radio frequency licenses across
182 schools. Radios provided to school staff enable communication across
business, emergency, and backup channels to enhance coordination and
campus safety. A total of 12,540 radios were distributed to District staff.
The project started ahead of schedule in March 2025, allowing early
deployment using existing radio frequencies. The project was completed on
August 8, 2025, and included:
Completion of all FCC license approvals
Installation at all designated sites
Evaluation of radio network operations
Training for school staff and police officers
on new equipment
The project offers improved campus safety, faster response capabilities,
and more reliable communication infrastructure.
This strategic investment in communication infrastructure underscores the
School District of Palm Beach County’s commitment to school safety and
