discrimination, defamation, and libel, prohibiting communications that are obscene or harmful to
minors, and prohibiting use of institutional privileges for personal gain, and improper disclosure
of confidential information and as stated in Fla. Stat. § 112.313(8). This would include, the duty
to avoid improper use or disclosure of "information not available to members of the general
public and gained by reason of [their] official position for [their] personal gain or benefit or for
the personal gain or benefit of any other person or business entity".
f. Employees must comply with School Board Policy 8.121, copyright laws and license agreements
while using technology and copyrighted materials.
g. The District uses various measures to protect its network and information resources and its
users; however, the District cannot guarantee that security incidents and hacking will not
happen. The District accepts no responsibility for harm caused directly or indirectly by the use of
its network and information resources.
h. The employee shall contact the IT Service Desk to report any security incidents that have
occurred. The Service Desk will contact the IT Security team, who will respond appropriately to
resolve any security incidents including cyber-attacks and will work to prevent them from
reoccurring.
4. The District authorizes employees to use District technology resources, software applications, and
databases for the employees' assigned responsibilities when allowed by an appropriate District
representative. Employees shall use these resources to enhance job productivity in performance of
District business. Principals and District department directors are to follow District standards to
ensure accountability of their staff's use of these resources to support academic and business
functions.
a. Creation by an employee of any District or school blogs and/or social networking sites must
be authorized by the Superintendent/designee and be for a public purpose. The use of the
blog or site must be compliant with District policies, including but not limited to those
involving public records retention, student privacy, prohibiting statements or actions that
are discriminatory, defamatory, or harmful to minors, and compliance with copyright laws.
These blogs or sites will also be subject to any School Board policy relating to social media.
b. Employees are advised that many District technology resources, including but not limited to
laptops and desktops, may contain input systems such as web cameras and microphones
which can be remotely controlled to turn them on and off. The District will not utilize any
such input systems remotely unless consistent with the law.
c. GPS and Other Technology Logging -- The District has the right to log the location of any
District technology resources, including cellular devices, at any time without further
notification to the employee beyond the statements within this Policy, including the
employee’s consent. This right must be exercised within a reasonable scope and only for
good cause relating to the District, including but not limited to proper allocation of
