Youth Risk Behavior Survey
The Youth Risk Behavior Survey (YRBS) is administered in odd numbered years. The most recent data the
District have is from the 2019 survey, but the 2021 YRBS will be administered in the Fall 2021. The School
District of Palm Beach County conducts the YRBS every two years in middle and high schools. It is a quasi-
experimental design through 2 period classes. The YRBS surveys are anonymous and self-reported.

Weighted data, meaning the results are generalizable to make assumptions about all students in Palm
Beach County public middle and high schools, has been achieved since 1999.
The YRBS is part of CDC’s Youth Risk Behavior Surveillance System.
YRBS examines behaviors that are most associated with the leading causes of morbidity and mortality
among youth, and assesses how those behaviors change over time.
The YRBS measures behaviors that fall into six categories:
o Behaviors that result in unintended injuries and violence
o Tobacco use
o Alcohol and other drug use
o Sexual behaviors that may result in HIV infection, other STIs, and unintended pregnancy
o Weight management and dietary behaviors
o Physical activity
