COMMUNITY
This is all part of our “We’re ALL In!” campaign to support our LGBTQ+ students and staff. Through this
campaign, we supported inclusive policies on discrimination (Protecting Students from Harassment and
Discrimination Policy (5.001), and Bullying and Harassment Policy (5.002), as well as the Diversity and Equity
Committee Policy (1.097) and the Equity Policy (1.041)). The District also supported inclusive curriculum such
as the Human Growth & Development curriculum and instructional materials, such the diversity libraries in
Elementary, Middle and High School’s Media Centers. Finally, supportive staff can be identified in various
ways. We offered posters and stickers for a school to display. We also designed a badge, which staff can wear
with their name badge that identifies them as a supportive, caring adult for LGBTQ+ students.
Visibility is so important. A number of activities occurred throughout
the 2020-2021 school year. In FY21, since school extended into June,
which was Pride Month, we were able to send a Progressive Pride Flag to
each school. We also were able to mark the dedication of several Pride
Crosswalks that were dedicated in Palm Beach County, due to the hard
work of Palm Beach County Human Rights Council (PBCHRC), Compass
Community Center, several local politicians and activists. We also
participated in Compass’ Pride event, which, due to the pandemic this
year, was a Pride Market, as opposed to a Pride Fest and Parade event.
Finally, the District updated the LGBTQ+ Critical Support Guide, which
provided guidance on many issues related to LGBTQ+ students and staff.
The Guide touched on many issues from names and pronouns use, to use
of public facilities, and it is available on the District’s Portal site through
the ‘We’re ALL In’ Tile.
