COMMUNITY
“The 2021-2022 school year presented the District with continuing
unprecedented challenges while resuming instruction and full activities in
schools. The School Health Advisory Council (SHAC) has been fortunate to
work with a district whose staff are dedicated and responsive to meeting the
serious and evolving needs of a diverse student population including the
increased behavioral and mental health concerns. SHAC’s support of its goals
addressing programs promoting social, emotional and behavioral health and
comprehensive health education remains of paramount importance if all
students are to reach their potential and shine. Both SHAC and the District’s
Wellness Promotion Task Force embrace the framework of the Whole School,
Marsha Fishbane, M.D. Whole Community, Whole Child model to guide our efforts.”
SHAC Chair
“For decades, the School Health Advisory Council (SHAC) has provided
guidance and support to the District for the overall health and well-being of our
students and their families. As students have returned to school campuses and
re-entered the social environment, SHAC has shone a light on their evolving
mental and behavioral health needs and has advocated for resources to address
these changing needs, as it will continue to do. It has been an honor this school
year to partner with District staff and leadership to advance a comprehensive
approach to promoting student well-being.” Seth B. Bernstein, Psy.D., SHAC
Vice-Chair, Executive Vice President of Community Investments, United Way of
Palm Beach County.
