No Kid Hungry Spotlight School Initiative
No Kid Hungry has been an ongoing partner to the School Food Service (SFS) Department in helping to
promote school meal programs and increase meal participation throughout the District. During FY22, No Kid
Hungry awarded SFS with $30,000 for supplies and equipment to help support our passion of keeping kids
first!
No Kid Hungry is a national campaign run by Share Our Strength, a nonprofit organization working to solve
problems of childhood hunger and poverty in the United States and around the world. No Kid Hungry wants
to tell the story of hungry children in America, but people don’t respond only to data and plans. They also
need to see and hear stories - the voices of children, images showing meal programs, and firsthand testimony
from educators.
As part of that endeavor, No Kid Hungry partnered with SFS to participate in Spotlight Schools – Palm Beach
County, a project designed to tell those stories through the No Kid Hungry campaign and the successful
school programs that are feeding them. The District was just one of three in the country to be part of the
initiative this school year.
In FY22, No Kid Hungry spotlighted Northmore Elementary School. Their publicity team documented
stories through virtual interviews throughout the school year and their film crew spent three days in April
2022 interviewing SFS staff, teachers, administrators, parents, and students and captured exciting footage
of children receiving and eating breakfast and lunch. These images and stories will be used to amplify the
extraordinary work being done every day to make sure our students never go hungry.
