112 FY25 Wellness Promotion Policy (WPP) Annual Report Back to MenuPhysical EnvironmentRisk ManagementThe School District of Palm Beach County is dedicated to keeping students and staff safe. To uphold this commitment, several crucial safety measures have been implemented across the District. One key measure is the Automated External Defibrillator (AED) program, which ensures AEDs are readily available in all District schools. A recent upgrade to ZOLL Medical AEDs has significantly enhanced the program%u2019s effectiveness. These ZOLL AEDs feature pads and batteries with a lifespan of up to five years and provide real-time feedback on chest compressions through Real CPR Help. To date, 948 units have been replaced, with plans to replace the remaining units by the end of 2025. In total, there are currently 1,000 AEDs districtwide. In addition to the AED program, the District uses Earth Networks to monitor severe weather conditions. This system sends text and/or email alerts to school administration, enabling them to prepare for adverse weather. Each high school has a weather station to monitor the WetBulb Globe Temperature (WBGT), helping to reduce the risk of heat-related illnesses during practice and games. The information collected from these weather stations is used districtwide. To further prioritize student safety, the District conducted annual inspections on all 323 playgrounds. These inspections are performed annually by Certified Playground Safety Inspectors (CPSI), who serve as Safety Technicians. Any hazards identified are promptly reported to the Department of Maintenance and Plant Operations for immediate correction. In addition, a staff member at each school with a playground is assigned to complete a high-frequency inspection every month.
