Chana Masala is a popular Indian dish made with chickpeas cooked in a flavorful, tangy, and mildly spicy sauce, making it a favorite in Indian cuisine.Passover During this time, Matzah crackers%u2014the traditional unleavened bread%u2014were readily available and served as an alternative grain option during both breakfast and lunch services. In addition, a new egg salad recipe was introduced, pairing perfectly with the matzah for a simple yet satisfying option.Haitian Heritage MonthOn May 16, 2025, SFS celebrated Haitian Heritage Month with a vibrant feast, featuring Chicken Drumsticks, Pinto Beans infused with a medley of flavors from an epis-inspired seasoning blend, golden Plantains, and Pickled Slaw reminiscent of the beloved Haitian pikliz. This culinary journey was a testament to the diverse and dynamic flavors of Haitian cuisine, curated with care and authenticity.National Peach MonthIn celebration of National Peach Month in August, SFS highlighted the sweet and nutritious flavors of this summertime favorite. Students enjoyed a variety of peach-inspired menu items, including fresh peaches, peach parfaits, and a refreshing peach frozen slushie that quickly became a student favorite. To complement these offerings, nutrition education materials were shared to help students learn about the health benefits of peaches%u2014such as their vitamin C content, natural sweetness, and role in supporting healthy skin and immunity. The celebration not only brought a taste of summer to school cafeterias but also encouraged students to make fresh fruit a fun and regular part of their meals. Johnny Appleseed DayIn honor of Johnny Appleseed Day on September 26, 2025, SFS celebrated this classic American folk hero by showcasing a variety of crisp, flavorful apples. Students had the chance to sample and enjoy several delicious varieties, including Paula Red, Granny Smith, and Golden Delicious.
