Financial Sustainability Plan
To sustain the garden, it’s important for each school garden team
to develop a financial sustainability plan. Once the garden is
developed, operational costs are minimal. The plan can include
business partnerships, grant funding, and selling produce to
reinvest into the garden.
• Create a budget
• Develop a “wish” vs. “need” list
• Create practices to sustain your garden
• Research available grants
• Host a “green” fundraiser
Grant Funds
• Have you received grant money this year to support your
school garden?
• Who is the donor (who did you receive the money from)?
• How much money did you receive?
• Are you working with the Grants Department (grants $10,000
and up)?
• Are you working with the Budget Department when you
receive a grant (grants $10,000 or less)?
• How will you be using these funds to support your garden
this year?
Community Support
• Do you have parent support?
• Do you have support from community organizations?
• Which community partners are you working with?
