Summer Student Internship Program
The impact of the Summer Student Internship Program resonated deeply with high school students, recent graduates, and
departments across the District. This year’s program resulted in 73 student interns contributing their talents across 20
District departments and 13 schools.
This transformative six-week program offered students invaluable opportunities to collaborate with District administrators
and teachers, immersing them in real-world projects that challenge and inspire. Through hands-on experiences and job-
embedded learning, interns gained skills and insights that sets them apart.
During their internships, student interns made a significant impact on the professionals they worked with and brought
fresh perspectives that enriched District initiatives. This impactful journey continued in the summer of 2024, hiring 89
students who continue to make a difference across the District.

Pre-Service Program
During the FY24 school year, the District’s pre-service program boasted partnerships with 12 universities (including out-
of-state universities, Historically Black Colleges and Universities [HBCU], and Hispanic-Serving Institutions [HSI]) to offer
placements for college students pursuing a degree in education. Once a college establishes an affiliation agreement with the
District, students can complete placements (including a semester-long internships).
The District created a consortium with these partners and worked collaboratively with universities to match students
with qualified cooperating educators at the appropriate school or subject aligned with the students’ certification goals. The
District coordinated and facilitated quarterly pre-service consortium meetings that brought various stakeholders together
to discuss program updates, best practices, and new trends in post-secondary education. Pre-service students had the
opportunity to work with qualified teachers, mirroring and modeling best practices in the classroom with students.
Pre-service students requiring an internship were placed with a qualified District cooperating educator who had completed
the required “Clinical Educator” training and, in some cases, a reading endorsement. Interns were supported with resources,
including District technology access to mirror their cooperating educator, and access to professional learning opportunities.
This comprehensive program aims to provide aspiring educators with a robust foundation for their future careers.
