Extended Learning

The Department of Extended Learning supports afterschool programming
for K-5 and middle school. Since FY22, K-5 afterschool enrollment has
increased by 25%. K-5 programs have fully implemented Eleyo, an online
afterschool software platform that allows sites to manage afterschool
registration and accounts and record attendance sign-outs electronically.
Families have real-time access to their account information and can provide
the most up-to-date information to sites. The platform allows all families
to pay online, including tuition and additional fees. In FY24, there was an
increase in online payments and a reduction in cash collection at sites.
Eleyo also allows for greater site support from Extended Learning as the
department has centralized access to reporting and invoicing.

In January 2024, the department launched the “STEM in a Box” pilot with
20 afterschool programs. In K-5 afterschool programs, students have daily
access to age-appropriate core STEM tools, which develop skills for learning
and life while supporting an interdisciplinary approach.

The 21st Century Community Learning Centers (21st CCLC) program
has been awarded 16 Nita M. Lowey grants, which are used to support
approximately 2400 students across 38 program sites throughout the District.
The program aims to offer students academic and personal enrichment
opportunities during the regular school year and throughout the summer.
This grant program has been successful in providing personalized learning
support for all students, achieving the following outcomes for the FY24 school
        year:
          • Provided new laptops to ensure a one-to-one student-to-technology
            ratio.
          • Offered a robotics curriculum to develop computational thinking, logic,
            and critical thinking skills.
          • Introduced a new math curriculum to assist with closing academic gaps.
          • Increased school day attendance rates.
          • Conducted approximately 190 family service events to engage and
support parents with the development of the whole child.
          • Offered over 290 expanded learning opportunities to students through
            our partnership with Primetime.
          • Offered over 40 professional learning opportunities to staff.
